Scheduled Walkies Sessions
The key to the Gold Coast Dogs Walkies Photography Service
Introduction
My believe is that scheduled sessions are the key to a photography service that works with a community of dog lovers (the pack), throughout the year, rather than a service catering just for individual client requests, on an ad-hoc basis. The consideration and involvement of a community of customers facilitates wider options and cheaper "equivalent opportunities", for each individual dog owner or dog walker. The Zürich & Gold Coast Walkies Photography Service is unusual, if not unique amongst Professional Dog photography services, in that the service offering is based around Scheduled Photo Sessions, servicing a community of dog lovers. Perhaps this concept, or something like it, exists elsewhere - but since the Walkies Service is very much of my own design, it probably warrants further explanation... The what, where, when, why and how are covered info pages, with links below.

Every dog owner would love to have at least one professional quality photo of their dog to hang on the wall, sit on sideboard or have on their desk. However, the entry level to this is typically a one hour photo shoot, costing in the region of 400-600, for up to 5-10 photos, all shot with someone you possibly haven't met before.

If you want high quality photos at a different time of year, at different locations, under different lighting conditions, with other family members in the shots, with the dog doing something completely different, etc..., you'll need to shell out another 500 CHF, and so it goes on.

I think most owners would like to have several professional quality photos of their dog(s), taken in many different settings. The typical professional dog photography service model just doesn't seem to provide that opportunity at a reasonable price point.

"Yes, but I can take great shots with my Iphone now", I hear you say. Sure, you can take some great shots with a mobile device now, or even your own camera - but you can't match the range and quality of shots that a professional photographer can produce, and certainly not in the time that they can do it. If you're only interested in posting to instagram, and / or don't care for quality, then - OK, but if you really want high quality shots, including ones with you in the photos (not just selfies) , then there really isn't a substitute for a good professional photographer.

How do we fix this issue ? Answer, by a professional dog photographer providing scheduled photo sessions to a community of dog owners, where the costs for providing those sessions are aggregated and spread out across the community, thus providing the ability to offer a variety of photo opportunities for each owner, that they would not have been able to afford, if funding just by themselves. It's sort of like how insurance works (the industry I used to work in...), but here, hopefully everyone benefits each year, rather than a few unfortunate people that need to make claims.
The Stars Need To Align for this to Work

The service needs to work for both the dog owner and the photographer to be viable and have any longevity. For that to happen, a few things need to be alligned / in place:

-
The service needs a good professional photographer, who the customers can trust to deliver the photos that they desire, and with whom they are comfortable to collaborate.
-
That photographer must be willing to risk, what is a huge time commitment to make this work. They are only going to do this if they believe there is a high chance that this will ultimately deliver more business than the typical, each customer pays for their own shoot, service model.
-
There needs to be a market that is big enough to sustain the service, with enough potential customers convinced in the value of the service to participate.

Within the Gold Coast Dogs Walkies Photography Service I am introducing scheduled photo sessions. Essentially, I publish a calendar of sessions. For each session, I remain at one location for 2-3 hours and shoot several dogs for 5-15 minutes. There will be 100-150 sessions throughout the year, at many different locations, throughout the Zürich / Gold Coast Area, through all four seasons, in different weather conditions, lighting conditions, with different themes. Participants in a "Four Seasons 1 Year Plan", will be able to participate in any of those sessions, for the price of just 1 - 2 single photo sessions, depending on what you take as a comparison.

No-one will attend to 100 sessions, probably not even 10, or 20 - but you will have the potential option to do so and will be able to pick and choose which sessions you attend.
